The Annual Parish Meeting was held after the Divine Liturgy on Sunday, 7 February. Thanks to everyone who participated. Newly-elected Parish Council members are Dave Minich (Vice-President), Dan Gall (Treasurer), Fred Cassell (re-elected Trustee), and Jim Spoerl (Trustee). Sue Kidd is re-elected to Auditing Committee, and Kathy Garlesky & Connie Zimmerman are elected to Nominating Committee. Thanks to all who have served in elected positions over the past year, and to everyone who is willing to serve now.

New Class: Preparation for Martyrdom: Aleksandr Solzhenitsyn's Gulag Archipelago

A new class will be offered Friday evenings at 5:30 that could be titled "Preparation for Martyrdom". It will be dedicated to reading and discussing Aleksandr Solzhenitsyn's Gulag Archipelago (abridged edition, Willetts & Whitney translators, E. Erickson editor), both for its historical and literary value but especially for the lessons it offers to prepare Christians for possible martyrdom should persecution ever arise; and even if not such does not occur in our lifetime, it still offers important lessons on how to live well and die well. Coming January 22!

Hieromonk Zacharias of St. John the Baptist Monastery in Essex, England, spiritual son of Elder Sophrony and spiritual grandson of St. Silouan of Athos, will be in Dallas/Fort Worth the weekend of February 6-7. He will celebrate the Divine Liturgy Saturday morning February 6, 7:00 a.m. at St. Seraphim's Cathedral in Dallas. Following a light breakfast, he will speak at 9:30 with Q&A to follow. That evening, he will be at St. Sava's, Plano, for Vespers at 5:00 and a talk with the youth at 6:00 p.m. This is his last trip to the USA, so don't miss this!

On December 29 with the permission of His Eminence Metropolitan Hilarion, Father Victor Potapov, Rector of St. John the Baptist, will bring the miraculous icon of the Sign of the Theotokos known as Kursk-Root and before which St. Seraphim was healed, to St. Nicholas.
There willl be a Divine Liturgy concelebrated at 10:00 a.m. All are invited to the Liturgy and to venerate the ancient icon of the Mother of God.

Our parish bookstore will soon be offering prints, both mounted and unmounted, of the lovely icon of St. Maximus painted for our parish by an iconographer. These should be available by December 14. Proceeds will go to help build a permanent temple in honor of the Saint to the glory of God.

This is a wonderful production of BBC on the 6th century Monastery of St. Katherine on Mount Sinai in Egypt. The ancient Greek Orthodox Monastery has been a site of pilgrimage throughout the centuries. A superbly produced video addressing the rich history, ancineet icons, church art and lives of the present day monastics. The best video you may ever see on the this Holy Mountain where God walked and was sween by Moses and Elias.

"The Return of the Icon"

In the Summer of 2004, the Icon of the Tikhvin Mother of God, one of several painted by the Apostle and Evangelist Luke, was returned to Russia after some 60 years in the USA. The story begins in a Chicago house and ends in the Monastery of Tikhvin, east of St. Petersburg. The film explains the history of the icon and the miraculous escape of the Icon from both the Nazis and Communists. It is especially impressive to see the hundreds of thousands of people processing with the Icon on its return to Russia.
